A Walk Among Tombstones - capsule movie review by Camilo Arenivar

The first thing you have to know is that this is not one of those Liam Neeson "Taken" formulaic action thrillers. It is not that kind of movie at all. It is about a methodical private eye investigating what turns out to be some connected grisly serial murders. It has a little of a "Silence of the Lambs" feel but without the intensity of a Hannibal Lecter as part of it. It is slow moving but mysterious and if you can hold your attention, interesting. It reminds me of a movie from the 70s or 80s, where it was about the story, the characters (and their flaws), and it builds interest in a slow crescendo. Good story (based on a book), good acting, and good direction. One might say they don't make movies like this anymore and depending on your palate, that can be a good or bad thing. I enjoyed it once I realized it was not going to be an edge of your seat thriller.
